The dresses made in the book seems to have pretty unrealistic designs and request from Lady Sarnai (okay, it is pretty unrealistic lmao but Lady Sarnai is a bitch and so is the emperor lol). Let’s talk about the creation of the garments in the book. I enjoyed how the places was described briefly but it was straight to the point and still left enough room for imaginations. The world characteristics building was good. The book have pretty good and well-paced flow that each event that was taking place so it didn’t felt rushed and there was enough of description but it wasn’t too much that it would get draggy and long winded. As the book progresses, Edan’s life story slowly unfolds but the revealing of information wasn’t poured out on just one part where everything about his life story was done and over with in a few pages but instead it was spread out over the course of several chapters which allows him to remain mysteriously cool throughout the book.

I won’t lie but Maia kind of annoyed me a few times in the book and the fact that Edan is everywhere in the book yet he still manage remain mysterious is really intriguing. I actually dived into the book with medium level expectation and it surely didn’t disappoint me at all. I’ve been pretty hyped up by my friends about this book and someone actually told me “since you love fashion so much, I think you will like this book a lot” and sure enough, my friend was right. Series of unpredictable events of friendships, betrayal & backstabbing, Maia narrowly avoided death and awarded the title of Imperial Tailor but with a catch, she need to sew three dresses for the Lady Sarnai made out of the laughter of the sun, the tears of the moon and the blood of the stars. Pretending to be a boy in her family place, Maia set out to Summer Palace with a family heirloom, a pair of scissors to win the position of Imperial Tailor in order to restore her family’s honour but in the same process, she catches the attention of Edan, Lord Enchanter who see through her disguise. In this fresh spin of Mulan takes on Project Runway for Haute Couture, Maia poses as her brother, Keton when the men in her family is summoned to the imperial court to compete with other tailors to win a chance to be the Imperial Tailor to the Imperial Family.
