This combination is one of its irritants although Despentes is examining vital questions in the feminist conversation (pornography, rape), she writes in such a casual and expletive-laden manner that it is all too easy to dismiss or, indeed, miss her occasional good points.Īnother linguistic problem (and this may be partly the fault of the translator) is that Despentes falls into the trap that she castigates others for: she uses the generalised language that she claims to hate.
